About this app
Safe Return is a personal safety app for moments when you don't feel completely sure: a date, a night out with someone you don't know well, getting home alone.
How it works
1. Before you go, set an alert: choose how long to wait (or a time of day) and who to notify. You don't have to explain it to anyone.
2. Carry on with your plans. The countdown runs on its own.
3. About 5 minutes before time is up, you get a reminder so you don't miss it.
4. If you're fine, cancel the alert in the app and nothing is sent. If you don't cancel in time, your contacts receive an email and an SMS with your name, your last known location and the note you wrote.
Built to be reliable
• The countdown lives on our server, not just on your phone. If your battery dies, you lose signal, or your phone is taken, the alert still goes out when time runs out.
• Your contacts don't need to install anything: they get the alert by email and SMS.
• Add a personal note (up to 200 characters), for example: "I'm with Marcos at the Luna bar".
Your trusted contacts
Save family, friends or your partner and choose who to notify each time. Edit or delete them whenever you like.
Discreet: we recommend disguising it
A safety alert only works if nobody knows about it. If someone sees an app called "Safe Return" on your phone, they may get suspicious, ask questions or delete it. That's why we recommend disguising it: the app swaps its icon and name for those of a simple everyday app (Notes, Calculator, Clock or Weather) so nobody will know it's there. You choose it in a moment, at the end of the initial setup.
To open it, tap the red text on the home screen 5 times in a row. And it's fully reversible: at any time you can get the original icon back from "Change app icon" inside the app. The disguise only changes the icon and name on your phone; on Google Play and in the alerts sent to your contacts it is always Safe Return.
Privacy
• Only what is needed to send the alert is stored.
• Your data is never sold or used for advertising.
• Old alerts are deleted after 12 months.
• You can delete your account and all your data from the app at any time.
