Using Safe Surfer for other/malicious purposes is stricly prohibited. A persistent notification shows at all times when Safe Surfer is active.

• As a parental control app, we use the Android AccessibilityService API for the sole purpose of stopping device users from uninstalling protection without the permission of a parent (or an accountability partner).

• As a parental control app, we use the Android VPNService API to filter online content according to your settings. This VPN does not change your IP address/country on the internet, nor does it affect your internet speed.

• Some mobile service providers and Internet service providers in certain countries hijack the ability to use specific DNS settings. The Safe Surfer app relies upon this ability. If this is the case in your country with your service provider, the Safe Surfer app may not work properly on your device.

Ratings and reviews

Parent of 2 kids here who went to a parenting talk by Rob Cope, Safe Surfer is one of his recommended tools. Love what the app can do but the set up for just one kid has taken me hours (and that's with the help of AI, god knows how long it would have taken without I would have given up!). The user interface & set up is not very intuitive for a non-techy parent and the self-service page is flawed also. What is can do is awesome, getting it work right is awful!

It actually filters based on DNS.If DNS is not set or browser data is deleted, it is easy to access banned websites. And DNS filters can be turned off without any restrictions from system settings! That's why it can be said that this app is not effective, but it would be more effective if it blocked based on keywords like BlockerHero does.

This app is great; I really like it, especially the create PIN feature that lets me guess the PIN to enter, preventing me from changing the settings. Another thing I like is that the VPN stays active, though there are times when it gets disabled when I use a freezer app. It can also block background-running apps, so it doesn't work even if I pay for it since I can just use a freezer app. please adjust the system to keep this app running even when placed in a freezer app or mode.
