About this app

Now for all types of boats. Whether you are going out in a cabin cruiser, sport fisher, sailboat, work boat, kayak or waterski boat, this app shows you an animation of wind and wave conditions before heading out on the water.

There are lots of weather services and apps, but they all use the same satellite weather forecast. Low resolution, low accuracy, and only updated 4 times per day. Weather satellites are 500 to 22,000 miles up in space. Crowdsourcing is changing marine weather. Why rely on satellite imaging, when you can use actual measurements from other boaters? In coastal areas, we archive these to map wind flow for more accuracy.

Crowdsourced weather maps like these have never been possible before. A wind sensor measures local wind around your boat, but now you can also know the wind and sea state up ahead or around the next point.

FEATURES FOR ALL TYPES OF BOATS:
● View your route with free aerial photos and land maps worldwide. If you have the Navionics Boating app, you can import worldwide Navionics charts here with a yearly subscription. All maps and charts can be used offline.

● The crowdsourced wind map animation and WNI marine weather each have a low-cost monthly subscription with a free 7-day trial. (The animation needs more resources than other parts of the weather maps, and may not run on older versions of Android or phones/tablets with minimal RAM).

● Create and rename waypoints by tapping or importing a list.

● The white crosshair icon in the top left is the “Follow-Me” button. If clicked, it turns blue and keeps your location in the center of the screen as you move. Unselect when not moving to look around the map, and when to zoom in and out.

● GPS track can be displayed under options. Save a screenshot to view or share your trip later.

FOR SAILBOATS:
Whether cruising or racing, it is important to be able to determine the best heading on all points of sail. GPS chartplotters and mapping apps do not account for sailboat tacking distances. But if they do not know the distance you will travel, how can they calculate your correct ETA? This is the only product that calculates your optimal tacks using your tacking distance and polar plots. Details at www.SailTimerApp.com. SailTimer gives you a quick and easy display of your optimal tacks and TTD® (Tacking Time to Destination).

● If you have the wireless SailTimer Wind Instrument™ (www.SailTimerWind.com) connected to your phone/tablet, your optimal tacks will update automatically in this app as the wind changes. Or you can manually enter wind direction and wind speed to see your optimal tacks for the route you are planning.

● Just select a route to see the optimal tacks to each waypoint.

● When you pass a waypoint, press the > on the right side of the screen to go to the next waypoint. (Press < on the left side to see optimal tacks to the previous waypoint).

● The optimal tacks are the same headings whether you do the port or the starboard tack first. See the FAQs at http://sailtimerapp.com/FAQ.html for hints about avoiding obstructions by switching to the other tack.

● Polar plots: The app comes with a default polar plot for calculating optimal tacks (which you can edit). Plus, it can learn the custom profile for your boat's speed on different wind angles (polar plot).

● Wind gauge button in upper right when using wireless Wind Instrument shows True and Apparent Wind Angle and Direction (TWD, TWA, AWD, AWA) in True-North and Magnetic-North reference.

● Audio feedback is available by tapping screen to hear wind conditions. (More audio features are available in the SailTimer Wind Gauge app).

Started off with a decent marine map, which was good. I have a Navionics subscription so in the settings, I selected charts, and Navionics. The chart it brought up is next to useless and is not my Navionics subscription definition map. The App won't let me go back to the default map that it started with, even after uninstall and reinstall. I've uninstalled the App as the map is no good, not showing any Marine navigation marks. Developers, please improve maps options and Navionics interface.

After downloading the App, three attempts to register on a Samsung S23 Ultra. Blank Screen. The app has now been deleted. Seems the developer has a way to go.

Hello Bryan Levigne, Thanks for your comment. This is a mature, stable app that is used by a lot of sailors worldwide -- check the number of downloads. This free app has better functions for sailboat navigation than GPS chartplotters costing thousands. We have prompt technical support, and can help you to log in. info@SailTimerinc.com

The £9 is not for Navionics chart themselves but only to unlock app to use a Navionics sign in if you subscribe to Navionics chart areas with Navionics.

Thanks for your comment Paul. There is more information in the FAQs about using the excellent Navionics vector charts: SailTimerapp.com/FAQ.html. This is the the only product that accounts for your tacking distances when determining your optimal route. It is great to be able to display your optimal tacking route on Navionics marine charts.

What’s new
