📖 The Fundamental Principles of Islamic Prayer Times
The calculation of the five obligatory daily prayers is fundamentally based on the observable astronomical positions of the sun relative to the earth.

Fajr (Dawn Prayer): The time for Fajr begins at True Dawn (al-Fajr al-Sadiq). This is the precise astronomical moment when a faint, horizontal band of white light first appears and begins to spread visibly across the eastern horizon. The time frame ends immediately at sunrise, exactly when the upper edge of the sun's disk breaches the horizon.

Dhuhr (Noonday Prayer): Dhuhr commences shortly after Zawal—the exact moment the sun crosses the local celestial meridian (its absolute highest point in the sky) and begins its downward descent. The time concludes when the length of any object's shadow becomes equal to the height of the object itself, plus the length of the shadow that was cast at exact noon.

Asr (Afternoon Prayer): Asr begins the moment Dhuhr ends. According to the majority of Islamic scholars (Jumhur), this is triggered when an object's shadow equals its own length (excluding the noon shadow). The time extends until the sun completely sets. (Note: The Hanafi school adopts a different parameter, stating Asr begins when the shadow is twice the length of the object).

Maghrib (Sunset Prayer): The time for Maghrib starts exactly at sunset. This is defined as the moment the entire solar disk has completely vanished below the western horizon. The time window is relatively short and ends when the red twilight (shafaq al-ahmar) fades entirely from the evening sky.

Isha (Night Prayer): Isha begins once the red twilight has completely disappeared from the western horizon, marking the onset of total darkness. The preferred time to perform Isha lasts until the exact midpoint of the night, though the permissible time technically extends until the break of True Dawn.
