Saint George is known as the Christian soldier of Rome, who died a martyr for his faith. History books and festivals in his honor attributed it to this Catholic martyr, who died beheaded without ever renouncing his faith in Jesus.

Saint George was also named patron of England, Georgia or Ethiopia, among other countries. What relates to the life of this saint throughout history crossed borders until he became an internationally known saint. He is usually represented with the scene in which his confrontation with the dragon is highlighted.

Let us know that St. George in his story was a Christian soldier from Rome, who died a martyr for not renounce his faith in Jesus. The martyrdom that took place in him was under the command of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, known as one of the greatest persecutors of Christians in the Roman Empire at the time.

Its origin occurred in present-day Israel, in the middle of the 2nd and 3rd centuries. His birthplace was in the region of Cappadocia, which at the time was under the rule of the Roman Empire. He was born into a humble family, but over time he forged a great military character, and it was this projection with arms that led him to serve who later became his own executioner, Emperor Diocletian.

St. George is also part of the martyrs of the early church. At the time, the emperor forbade any worship other than the idols they knew, which St. George decisively always refused, becoming increasingly attached to his faith in Jesus; it was that firmness that cost him his life. He is known to have been tortured and beheaded.

Saint George and the Dragon

Icons representing Saint George put him on a horse, and Saint George, with his spear, wounds a dragon. This story takes us to Selena, a city that is currently in Libya.

It is said that this city was subjected for a long time to a great animal, which forced the people to feed it with sheep or lambs. However, there was a period of cattle shortage, for which its inhabitants were forced to give up their young by means of a draw and thus satisfy the dragon.

When Saint George came to this land, the king's daughter was chosen, and it was this lady whom Saint George saved from the dragon's claws. It is said that from the wound he inflicted with the spear a rose sprouted, which is why it is also remembered as a very significant symbol.

After dominating the dragon, St. George brought the animal still alive to the people, so that its inhabitants could be witnesses and, thus, seek the conversion and baptism of each one. Tran reaching his goal, he decapitated the dragon.
