About this app

Right to Food Zambia is a free, multilingual mobile application developed to empower citizens with easy, offline access to information about their constitutional and human right to food. The app is part of the “Stronger Together: Supporting Civil Society to Advance the Right to Food” project, supported through We Effect Zambia (https://www.weeffect.org). It is designed to bridge information gaps, support accountability, and enable community-led reporting of food-related challenges across the country. Whether you are in an urban center or a rural village with limited connectivity, this app ensures that reliable knowledge, reporting tools, and alerts are always within reach.
Through a simple and accessible interface, users can browse clear summaries of Zambia’s national food-related policies, laws, and global commitments, including those aligned with international human rights frameworks. The violation reporting is available in English, Bemba, Tonga, and Nyanja, making it easier for diverse communities to engage with vital information in their preferred language. The application is built with offline capabilities, allowing users to view key content and submit reports without needing a constant internet connection.
The reporting feature enables users to submit anonymous or identified complaints about food rights violations—ranging from land dispossession and corruption in food aid distribution to price exploitation or access denial. Users can include details such as incident descriptions, location, and optional photos or voice notes. Reports are securely transmitted to a central platform where they can be reviewed and escalated by relevant stakeholders. Each report submission also triggers a confirmation, and users can check the status of their submissions within the app.
In addition to rights education and reporting, the app features timely situation updates and community alerts. These include real-time information on food availability, regional shortages, price fluctuations, and responses to food insecurity. The app is structured to be data-light and responsive on basic smartphones.
Disclaimer: The Rights To Food app is an independent entity, does not include any advertisements, and is not intended for commercial use. It serves solely as a public-interest digital tool to support communities in understanding and defending their right to adequate food, and doesn’t represent any government entity.
This initiative aims to promote equity, inclusion, and accountability by placing actionable information and reporting tools directly into the hands of those most affected by food insecurity.
Right to Food Zambia is a people-centered tool helping citizens, civil society, and community-based organizations to participate more actively in national dialogues around food systems, nutrition, and justice. It supports informed engagement, strengthens community voices, and ensures that no one is left behind in the fight for the right to food. Download the app today and take a step toward informed, empowered, and accountable communities across Zambia.
