Satellite Weather shows live imagery from the GOES-East and GOES-West satellites at their full refresh rate. You can pan and zoom across CONUS, the full disk, and the high-resolution mesoscale sectors. It loads quickly and won't bog down your device, and it pulls in sharper detail as you zoom into the smaller domains.

You get all 16 ABI channels from both satellites, plus a set of RGB products that combine those channels to bring out specific features — dust, fire temperature, airmass, snow versus fog, and GeoColor, the all-purpose view most people picture when they think of satellite imagery. An archive lets you go back up to 48 hours if you missed something in real time.

There are plenty of overlays to layer on top of the imagery: a wide range of model data, NWS overlays like warnings and outlooks, and map references such as counties and roads. Turn on what the situation calls for and leave the rest off.

Some setups take a few steps to build, so you can save a view and reload it later. Saved views sync to your account, so it's worth signing in and making a few.

Once you start digging in there's a good set of tools: a drawing tool for marking up an image and sharing it, a way to track cloud-top temperatures over time or for a particular storm, cross sections, soundings, and a storm-following mode. Take some time to poke around.

If it feels like a lot at first, switch to Easy mode. It hides the advanced features until you're ready for them. The settings also include guides on using the app and reading the different channels and RGB products.

There's a free tier that stays free. For the full set of channels, overlays, and tools, Pro is $1.99 a month. A Pro+ tier is planned that will add model data for deeper analysis. A subscription works on both the app and the companion website at satellitewx.com.

Satellite Weather Pro is an auto-renewing subscription: $1.99/month or $20/year, including a 14-day free trial. Payment is charged to your Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel it in your account settings.
