the scanner works, but when opening the first ads you see are ones that say it's outdated and need an update,and then take you to the play store to get a different app bar scanner. I've almost done this a few times, thinking about just replacing it with an app that doesn't risk me downloading a security risk because the ads aren't well identified or misleading.

this app is propagated by illegal deceptive adverts claiming your existing QR code scanner is out of date and needs to be upgraded. This is a lie and should not be allowed. it's being done because this is an aggressive advert supported product and the adverts are intrusive and aggressive and make the app dangerous to use.

Ads Ads Ads ... can't even start the app .... Just Ad ... Response to Developer: I absolutely don't have a problem with Ads... I feel support for apps via ad payment is positive for Developer support but when the ads overtake the usabily of the app, as it does in this one, it becomes too intrusive for the user to want to continue to use the app.
