Follow the conversation. Keep the words that matter.
Local Scribe helps you follow conversations you would otherwise struggle to hear. Read speech as on-screen captions, then review and save the conversation to revisit later. Speech recognition runs on your phone, with no account or transcription subscription required.
READ ALONG AS PEOPLE SPEAK
• Follow conversations with large, readable live captions.
• See the latest words in a separate draft block. They may change as more speech is heard.
• Scroll back to reread a passage, then return to the latest captions.
• Choose English or automatic language detection. Polish is available experimentally; its caption quality has not yet been validated.
REVIEW, SAVE AND REVISIT
• Review and edit the transcript before saving.
• Give conversations a title, search your notes and star the ones you want to find again.
• Replay saved audio to check words you missed.
• Copy or share note text.
• Reopen the recorder to recover the last saved checkpoint of an unfinished conversation. The final words may be missing or incomplete.
ON YOUR PHONE, AFTER SETUP
The first time you enter the recorder, Local Scribe downloads the speech models it needs—about 92 MB with the default settings. An internet connection and available storage are needed for this setup. You can cancel or retry a failed download.
After setup, recording and speech recognition work offline. Saved notes and playback remain available without preparing speech models. There are no accounts, ads, analytics services or transcription subscriptions.
KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT
Automatic captions can contain errors. Delay and accuracy depend on your phone, the speech and recording conditions. Performance on affordable phones still needs broader validation. Review important words rather than relying on the transcript alone.
Keep Local Scribe open while recording. Locking your phone or switching apps stops capture and preserves the available conversation. If recognition falls too far behind, recording stops while the app finishes processing the audio. Saved audio uses about 1.9 MB per minute. Audio export is not available.
YOUR SAVED CONVERSATIONS
Notes, recordings and recoverable drafts are stored locally and excluded from Android backup and device transfer. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes this local data.
Local diagnostics may include bounded caption excerpts. You can clear them or export them with an option to omit caption text; they are not uploaded automatically. Model downloads connect to Hugging Face and its delivery providers, which receive ordinary connection metadata. Screenshots, copied text and explicitly shared or exported files are handled outside app storage. Deleting a note also deletes its recording, but not external copies or retained diagnostic excerpts.
