Vienna speaks Serbian: People with Serbian roots make up one of the largest immigrant groups there, and in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Zurich, Srpski (Serbian) has long been part of everyday life. However, good courses in German are scarce. This app fills precisely that gap.

And it immediately dispels a common misconception: You don't need to learn Cyrillic to learn Serbian. The entire course uses the Latin alphabet, which is used naturally in Serbia every day. So you'll be reading along from the very beginning.

You'll learn the Serbian of Belgrade and Novi Sad, with the words that are actually spoken there: hleb for bread, kafa for coffee, voz for train, mleko for milk. You'll also get a taste of the culture: the slava, the family celebration in honor of the patron saint, which is unique to Serbia, the view of the Danube from Kalemegdan, and an evening at the Skadarlija.


The course comprises 54 levels, 179 lessons, and over 845 words and phrases up to level A2: greetings, family, food, numbers, telling time, verb conjugation, past and future tenses. Six different exercise types alternate, from listening and typing to matching pairs, and the spaced repetition ensures that what you've learned really sticks. Every word comes with pronunciation help and clear audio.
