Driving Hours Tracking: ShiftOwt uses background location and a foreground service to continuously and accurately track driving time for compliance with EU Regulation 561/2006. When you start a driving session, a persistent foreground service notification is displayed, and your driving hours are recorded uninterrupted — even when the app is in the background or your
screen is locked. This continuous tracking cannot be deferred or paused by the system, as any gap would result in incomplete compliance records that could lead to fines and licence penalties. You control when tracking starts and stops. Location data is only collected during active tracking sessions and is used solely to detect vehicle movement via GPS speed — your actual position or route is never tracked or stored.
