About this app

SHODO MASTERY is a Japanese calligraphy (shodo) practice app. Just photograph a model and your own work with your smartphone camera, and the AI calligraphy master compares the two and scores your work.

Works with brush writing and with practice paper. Use it for Kaisho, Gyosho, Sosho, copying models (rinsho) and New Year's writing (kakizome). Letter shapes and balance become scores, so you can aim for ranks and grades and improve like playing a game. Available in 14 languages.

The essence of improving in calligraphy is the accumulation of imitation: how faithfully can you follow the model? SHODO MASTERY is built around this idea. For any model you choose, the AI calligraphy master strictly scores how closely your work follows it. It does not vaguely judge "good or bad"; it shows in numbers how faithfully you wrote that model.

■ 14 languages, anywhere in the world
Even without a calligraphy class nearby, you can start serious practice anywhere in the world.

■ 29 levels, from 10th kyu to Shihan (master)
Start at 10th kyu and move up as you practice. The 21st to the end of each month is the "promotion period", your chance to show your results and move up. Aim for the highest rank, "Shihan".
*You can move up one rank per month.

■ AI scores how faithfully you follow your model
Just take (or select) an image of the model and a photo of your work. The AI calligraphy master analyzes letter shapes, balance, ink continuity and more, and turns fidelity into a score. Objective feedback raises the quality of your practice.

■ Official models or your own
Official models matched to your rank are completely free, and you can also practice with any model you have at hand.

■ No class location, time or day required
Practice late at night, early in the morning or in spare moments, as much as you like.

■ A habit said to be good for the brain
Calligraphy uses several areas of the brain at once: understanding a model and reproducing it by hand. Recent research suggests that writing-based activities may help maintain cognitive function. Calligraphy alone cannot prevent disease, but it is an easy habit to add to daily life.

■ 35 types of badges and items
Earn badges and special items as you move up.

■ Daily Theme (Premium) and rankings
The daily theme has no model: write from memory and imagination as a test of your skill. Yesterday's results are posted as a ranking.

With Growth Comparison, view past and present works side by side. *Requires using the app for at least two months.

In the Shop, you can also buy item packs with real money.

Premium AI features (AI Scoring, Daily Theme, Growth Comparison) can be used up to 35 times per day in total.
