Urban Management Centre has developed Garima app as part of SHWAS (Sanitation workers Health, Welfare and Safety), meaning Breath- in Sanskrit. SHWAS is a platform facilitating recognition and social & financial security of sanitation workers. The app is currently being used by Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), Government of Odisha for identification of sanitation workers directly dealing with liquid waste.
SHWAS has built-in tools for quality data collection and identifying gaps in provision of entitlements such as minimum wages, insurance, healthcare etc., serving as a tool for ULBs and concerned departments to support sanitation workers and their families in accessing social benefits.
