About this app

Sanatan Shastar Vidiya (hereafter referred to as the "Vidiya", i.e. science) literally translates as the “Timeless Science of Weapons”. It is the battlefield science of the traditional north Indian warrior and ruling classes known as the Kshatriya.
It is a martial science as ancient as India itself. According to tradition, its mythological and prehistoric origins can be traced back to Lord Shiva - the primordial shamanic God of India. It evolved with the earliest of the Shiva worshippers - the Pasupatis - the original wild men of India.

The Vidiya was systemised between 6th century BC and 5th century AD in the ancient Indian university city of Taxila. From there the art spread through the North Indian warrior caste of the Kshatriya. In time as the original Kshatriya faded away in history a new warrior classes emerged to guard the borders and rule its people. Foremost amongst them were the valiant Rajputs, Jats, Gujars, Marathas, Sikhs etc. Note, from the times of Emperor Akbar as Rajputs and Mughal martial cultures amalgamated many Muslims also practiced the Vidiya. Even in the Sikh armies there had always been Muslim warriors known as "Mureeds".

For centuries the Vidiya flourished in North India; then came the calamity of the British Raj. It is in this oppressive era that the indigenous martial science of North India faded away. The last time that remnants of this Vidiya was utilised was by Indian warriors (the Sikhs) in hand to hand trench, jungle, and urban combat in World War I and II, and during the inhumane partition of India in 1947.

Sanatan Shastar Vidiya in its entirety only exists in one Akhara (martial school) which was established in 1661 - the Akali Nihang Baba Darbara Singh Ranjit Akhara (hereafter referred to as "Akhara").

The Sanatan Shastar Vidiya app is split on 2 levels:

1. Access to free content which showcases the art, promotional videos, notifications of key events, access to seminar information and classes

2. Paid content to learn the art as a traditional "Shish" (trusted student) model which covers:
i) Khulla Yudhan (Deer style)
ii) Kurma Yudhan (Snapping Turtle style)
iii) Viraha Yudhan (Wild boar style)
iv) Sheshnag Yudhan (Snake style based on python and cobra)
v) Grur Yudhan (Bird style based on cockrel, gander, peacock and eagle)
vi) A glimpse of Bagh Yudhan (Leopard style)
vii) Access to pay-per-view seminar, specialised sessions and live events

The paid content covers a variety of capabilities within each combat style including unarmed and armed (knives, daggers, swords, spears, axes, and incidental weapons); it is all practical and pragmatic.

The training is structured as a series of detailed videos provided in both English and Hindi/Punjabi which are based on a highly methodical and systematic approach. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned martial artist, you will be taken through the various foundational building blocks that formulate Sanatan Shastar Vidiya.
