About this app

Finally, practice spelling. Without distractions. With pen and paper. The Hero School app is a pure, highly effective training program for children – especially those with dyslexia and dyscalculia.

Developed specifically for these children, our training focuses on small, manageable steps that enable immediate success. The exercises aren't grade-based, but rather start precisely where the foundation for confident writing is still lacking.

A clear level system for steady progress:
• Level 1: Confident letter-sound mapping and word structure.
• Level 2: First spelling rules such as consonant doubling and ie spelling.
• Level 3: Complex strategies such as derivation, elongation of the h, and s sounds (s/ss/ß).

The levels build on each other; you always start at the level where your child is currently making the most mistakes.

Motivating and varied exercises:
• Rules & Tricks: Simply explained with texts, images, and a growing video library.
• Word cards: Terms are written down in the traditional way using pen and paper. This not only trains spelling, but also handwriting. Includes a read-aloud function and direct self-check.
• Sentence dictation: Sentences read aloud at adjusted levels of difficulty for you to take notes.
• Matching games: Apply knowledge of the rules without writing. Find the word card that matches the rule from four cards.

Consciously without distractions – not a game, but effective practice: We consistently avoid avatars, point systems, and playful effects. This promotes concentration and is a great help, especially for children with attention deficit disorders. Handwriting is a central component of our concept.

For parents and teachers: There are helpful tips for each topic: How do I react to mistakes? How often is practice useful? How can I support my child further?

Flexible training: Individual levels can be practiced specifically or combined to train the transfer of rule knowledge to mixed tasks. This way, the child learns to independently recognize and apply the correct strategy.

Independent learning, targeted support: Children can use the app independently. However, especially in cases of dyslexia, we recommend support from parents or teachers in the "Rules and Tips" section. Working together to copy the learned rules onto a learning poster or notebook is also very helpful and further reinforces knowledge.

A well-thought-out methodological foundation: The spelling rules and tricks are taught based on the syllabic onset and vowel lengths. The vocabulary used is largely phonetic. For example, the infinitive "gehen" (go) is practiced, since "er geht" (he goes) contains an inaudible elongation. Words with stumbling blocks such as -ä-, -äu-, and usually also -ie- are deliberately avoided (exceptions are common function words such as "wie," "die," etc.). This allows your child to fully concentrate on the rule currently being practiced. Although you can start at any time, if you have dyslexia or dyscalculia, we recommend starting at the lowest level where errors occur most frequently.

For additional motivation, reward plans and spelling games are available for download on the Hero School website.
