Stitchwell is a row counter that also holds your place on the chart. Tap once when you finish a row — the highlight bar on your pattern moves down with you, on its own. Nothing to set up first, nothing to calibrate, no manual to read.
WHAT ACTUALLY GOES WRONG
It is never the knitting. It is the phone ringing on row 63 of a lace repeat, the sticky note that slid off the chart, and twenty minutes squinting at the fabric trying to work out where you are. Sometimes you don't work it out. That is how a half-finished sweater ends up in a bag in the cupboard.
HOW IT HOLDS YOUR PLACE
• One big button. Finish a row, tap it. Large, readable numbers, a gentle buzz, and your repeats counted for you: "Repeat 4 · row 10 of 12."
• The chart follows you. Import your pattern PDF, or photograph a paper one. Drag the highlight bar onto your current row twice and Stitchwell works out how tall a row is on YOUR chart — from then on it advances by itself. Other apps ask you to measure and calibrate before you can start. This one just watches what you do.
• It reads ahead for you. Tell it "every 4 rows from row 10, decrease" and it puts a banner up on the row before you knit it — not after you have knitted it wrong.
• Full-screen mode. Tap anywhere to count, the screen stays awake, and there is nothing else on the glass to hit by accident with a needle in your hand.
• Extra counters, named by you, for sleeve decreases or a second repeat, sitting right under the row count.
• Finish a project and it makes you a card to share, with the rows and the hours in it.
NOTHING TO SET UP BEFORE YOU START
Eight patterns are already inside: a garter scarf, a seed-stitch dishcloth, a ribbed headband, a lace scarf with a real 12-row chart, two crochet pieces, and two counted cross stitch charts — a little heart sampler and a repeating flower bookmark. Cast on from any of them and the PDF, the repeat and the row target are already filled in — you are working in ten seconds. All eight are free and always will be. There is a stitch-abbreviation reference in there too — knitting, crochet and cross stitch — for the moment a pattern says ssk and you would rather not go looking.
