Tevaram, also known as Thirumurai, is a compilation of Tamil hymns written by the Nayanars, the poet-saints of Shaivism in Tamil Nadu during the 7th and 9th centuries. They are dedicated to Lord Shiva. They are very sacred and consist of poems that praise Shiva’s attributes. They are considered as sacred and form a significant part of Tamil religious and literary traditions, influencing the devotional practices of Shaivites through the ages.

The word Tevaram, which means, “Teva,” and “Aram” which means the garland of the Lord Shiva, then Te and Varam, meaning “create love towards the Lord”.


Tevaram songs (தேவாரம் பாடல்கள்) include the first seven volumes of the collections of Tirumurai. Tevaram Tamil Books (தேவாரம் தமிழ் புத்தகங்கள்) contains works of the three most prominent Shaiva Tamil saints of the 7th and 8th centuries, they are Sambandar, Appar, and Sundarar. Their work is an important source for understanding the Shaiva Bhakti movement.




தேவாரம் என்பது சைவ சமய கடவுளான சிவபெருமான் மீது பாடப்பெற்ற பன்னிரு திருமுறைகளில் முதல் ஏழு திருமுறைகள் ஆகும். இந்த ஏழு திருமுறைகளை திருஞானசம்பந்தமூர்த்தி நாயனார், திருநாவுக்கரசு நாயனார், சுந்தரமூர்த்தி நாயனார் ஆகிய நாயன்மார்கள் தமிழில் பாடியுள்ளார்கள்.

தேவாரம் என்றும் அறியப்படும் இந்து சிவப்பு பக்தி பாடல்களின் ஒரு தொகுப்பு கவிதை நூல். இதனை விளக்க மற்றும் நிலைப்படுத்துவதற்கு, பல இடங்களில் உட்கார்ந்த என்று பல இடங்களில் பதிவாகும்

தேவாரம் பாடல்கள் (Tevaram Songs) தமிழ் அரசியல் கவிஞர்கள் நாலாம் நூற்றாண்டில் இந்து சிவப்பு பக்திக்குரிய கவிதைகளாகும். இது சிவனை புகழ்ந்து, அவருடைய சக்தி மற்றும் கருணைக்கு கட்டுப்படுத்திய சிவாய என்றும் அன்போடு எழுந்து பேசுகின்றன.
