FARO is an application developed by the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Multilingualism, Discourse, and Communication (MIRCo) at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), within the framework of the FARO Project of the CIVIS network of European universities.
The FARO Project comprises the Autonomous University of Madrid, the University of Bucharest, Sapienza University of Rome, and Aix-Marseille University. Inspired by the 2005 FARO Convention, its objective is to study the cultural and heritage diversity of the cities where these universities are located, analyzing how different social and cultural groups participate in the production of heritage.
The FARO application is an adaptation of the Voces-Territorios application, previously developed by MIRCo-UAM within the framework of the European project “From Contested Territories to Alternatives of Development: Learning from Latin America,” funded by the European Union through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (H2020-MSCA-RISE).
FARO allows users to record testimonies in various formats—audio, video, text, and image—about cultural diversity and locate them on a collective map built collaboratively by its users. These contributions facilitate ethnographic studies, participatory research, and processes of democratic and open knowledge building.
Anyone can join the FARO project and contribute to the understanding of cultural heritage through their own contributions.
