About this app

A lot of desktops don't come with a camera at all. And a lot of the webcams that do exist look rough: blurry, dark, and weirdly orange. Meanwhile the phone sitting next to you takes great video. ViewCam just lets you use that phone as your computer's camera instead.

Set it up once and your phone shows up as a regular webcam on your PC. Then any app that uses a camera can use it: Zoom, Meet, Teams, Discord, OBS, Skype, even the camera test page in your browser. You pick "ViewCam" from the camera list and you're done.

No webcam to buy. If your tower or monitor has no camera, this fills the gap for free. If you already have a webcam but you're tired of looking washed out, your phone's camera is almost always the better one.

Getting started:
1. Install the ViewCam desktop app on your computer (Windows or Linux).
2. Open ViewCam on your phone and choose front or rear camera.
3. As long as both are on the same Wi-Fi, the desktop app finds your phone on its own.
4. Open Zoom (or whatever you use), pick ViewCam as the camera, and go.

The rear camera is the trick most people miss. It's the best lens on your phone, so if you really want your video to look good, prop the phone up facing you and use the back camera instead of the front one.

A few things worth knowing:

Your video never leaves your home. It goes straight from your phone to your computer over your own Wi-Fi. It doesn't pass through us, we don't store it, and there's nothing to log into.

There's no account and no subscription. You install it, you use it.

It stays in sync. The stream is fast enough that your picture matches your voice on calls, so you're not stuck looking like a badly dubbed movie.

Who actually uses this:

People on a desktop PC that shipped without a camera and don't want to order a webcam and wait for it.

People whose built-in laptop or monitor camera is genuinely bad and who'd rather use the phone they already trust for photos.

People who stream or record with OBS and want a clean second angle without buying a capture card.

People doing interviews, lessons, or meetings where they'd rather not show up grainy.

What you need:
- A phone and a computer on the same Wi-Fi.
- The free ViewCam desktop app (Windows or Linux).

That's the whole pitch. Your phone's camera is better than the one you don't have the one you do. ViewCam connects the two so you stop thinking about it.
