About this app

Certain feelings or thoughts seem like they're too specific to be captured by one word. Until you read a word whose definition describes them so perfectly that you realize you're not the only person to have felt or thought them.

Thought-filled Words is a collection of rare, untranslatable, beautiful words for the thoughts and feelings we all have but rarely have language for. It doesn't just define them. It brings them to life.

It looks like a museum: every word hangs as a painting that wakes when you touch it. It feels like a book: you wander page by page, at your own pace, with nothing asking anything of you.

Every word becomes a scene of its own: a few seconds of light and motion that fill the screen. You can sit inside it, drag back through it frame by frame, and hold it still whenever you want. Erik Satie's Gymnopédies play softly the whole way through.

No two scenes look alike, and yet you never jump. Each painting finds its way into the next through a transition made only for that pair — unpredictable every time, obvious the moment you see it.

Behind each word is far more than a definition. There's a moment, written to let you feel it from the inside. All of it rests on paper you can make your own: the texture, the typeface, the torn edge, the colors you mark your favorites in. A book that happens to live on your screen.

It even begins the way a book does, with an overture, a poem, a slow breath, before opening into chapters you move through at your own pace.

• Rare, untranslatable words for feelings you've never had language for
• Every word its own full-screen scene, with a transition made for each pair
• An immersive "moment" for every word, prose that shows a feeling instead of defining it
• A reading space you can shape: paper, type, edges, and colors
• 365 words across 19 chapters, opening with the free Overture
• Fully offline. One purchase, yours to keep for life. No subscription, nothing to renew.
• Built in 20 languages from the ground up, each with its own intros, poem, and voice

Start free with the Overture. And if one of its 11 words gives you a moment worth pausing for, there are 354 more waiting. One of them, you might find, is the one you've been trying to put into words all along.

Looks like a museum, feels like a book — thoughts we all share, brought to life.

What’s new

A quiet update: the museum now hangs natively on tablets, and a hundred small refinements throughout.
