Tap any ingredient to see what it is for, what it is good at, and what to watch out for - written for humans, not chemists. Colour-coded chips let you spot the good stuff and the red flags at a glance.

Judged by how you would actually use it
A shampoo should not be judged like a face serum. Spotty rates ingredients by use context - skin, hair and scalp, oral care - so an ingredient that is a concern in one context does not wrongly sink a product in another.

HOW THE SCORE WORKS

Spotty does not just count "bad" ingredients. Each one is rated on proven benefit and on risk - irritation, sensitisation and genuine safety concerns - and ingredients higher up the list count for more, because that is where the concentration is. Ingredients with serious documented hazards cap a product's score no matter how good the rest of the formula looks. A long ingredient list is not punished simply for being long, and a strong active is not punished for being potent.

Your scans, questionnaire answers and photos are yours. You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
