About this app
Check the map to see where the shade falls right now on a summer day. It draws building shadows on the map to help you walk towards the shaded areas, and by turning the clock dial, you can preview the shade at any time from sunrise to sunset.
Key Features
Building Shadow Layer on Map
Overlays the shadows cast by surrounding buildings onto the map. You can see at a glance which sidewalk is shaded and which route to take to avoid the heat.
Clock Dial to Change Time
Turn the dial on the screen to change the time, and the shadows will move along with it. Check now to see if your meeting place at 3 PM will be shaded. You can view the sun from sunrise to sunset.
Direction of Sun and Shadow
Shows the sun's bearing and altitude as seen from your current location, along with the direction of the shadows.
Sunrise and Sunset
You can check today's sunrise, noon, and sunset times, as well as the sun's altitude and shadow length, in numerical form.
Calculated on Device
The sun's position is calculated on the device without going through a server. No login or registration is required.
Use it when:
When you want to walk in a slightly less hot area during a midsummer day
When choosing the time and route for a walk with children or pets
When deciding on a meeting spot outdoors in advance
When planning a route to avoid the sun
Notes
Shadows are estimates calculated based on OpenStreetMap building data and the sun's position. They may differ from reality in areas where building height data is missing or inaccurate, and elements not on the map, such as trees or canopies, are not reflected. Please use this for reference purposes only.
An internet connection is required to retrieve map and building data.
