*Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Pixel Heroes (Wei Chapter)* is an 8-bit style single-player turn-based RPG. This chapter follows Cao Cao—from his false imperial edict in Chenliu to his final night in Luoyang.

The boss of each level stands directly on the map; simply walk into the area to engage in combat. There are pre- and post-battle animations—Dian Wei's Ten-Step Halberd, Lu Bu's Fangtian Halberd, Zhao Yun's Seven Incursions and Seven Exits, and the fire that ignites when the east wind rises.

Skills, buffs, ambushes, enemy reinforcement waves, and even defeats where "winning by escaping one turn"—the Bian River breakout, the Red Cliff retreat, and the Huarong Road defeat. Attacks are announced with skill names, and special moves feature unique artwork upon entry.

Cao Cao, Xiahou Dun, Xiahou Yuan, Cao Ren, Cao Hong, Dian Wei, Xu Chu, Xun Yu, Guo Jia, Zhang Liao, Xu Huang, Zhang He, Cheng Yu, Jia Xu, Pang De, Cao Pi, Sima Yi, Yue Jin, Yu Jin, Li Dian, Xun You, Cao Zhen… Level cap 99. Teams may break up or reunite: Dian Wei defended the gate to the death, Pang De carried the coffin to his death—in those battles, he was the only one fighting; those who left the team would pass on their skills to those who remained, Cao Cao was later taken over by Cao Pi.
