About this app

STURNET supports sturgeon conservation by helping users record accidental bycatch and sighting events across the Black Sea region.

The app provides a simple, multilingual interface for documenting sturgeon observations and supporting environmental research.

Key features include:

- Record accidental sturgeon bycatch and sightings
- Identify sturgeon species using illustrated information
- Add optional GPS coordinates to a report
- Record fish condition, quantity, length, weight and visible signs of disease
- Save reports locally on the device
- Synchronise saved reports when an internet connection is available
- Access marine conservation information
- Use the app without creating an account

Reports are first stored locally on the user's device. They are transmitted to the STURNET research server only when the user selects the synchronisation function.

Location information is optional. Users can create and save reports without granting location permission.

STURNET does not require registration and does not ask users to provide their name, email address or telephone number as part of a report.

The information collected through STURNET supports scientific research, sturgeon monitoring and conservation activities in the Black Sea Basin.

STURNET is developed as part of an environmental conservation initiative coordinated by the Protection of Biodiversity in Bulgaria Foundation and project partners under the Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme.
