About this app

Varnamala is an offline transliteration app designed to help you understand Indian scripts around you using your phone’s camera.

It is especially useful for reading street sign boards, posters, notices, and printed documents written in unfamiliar Indian languages. With a simple and minimal design, Varnamala focuses on real-world usability and accessibility.

SUPPORTED LANGUAGES
Varnamala supports transliteration for the following languages:

• Hindi
• Punjabi
• Assamese
• Bengali
• Gujarati
• Kannada
• Tamil
• Malayalam
• Marathi
• Odia
• Telugu

HOW IT WORKS
• Use the camera for real-time transliteration
• Select images directly from your gallery
• Detects and transliterates text from images
• Works on sign boards, printed text, and documents

Typing-based input is not yet available. Varnamala currently works only with camera and image-based text recognition.

OFFLINE FIRST
Varnamala works completely offline after setup. Internet is not required for daily usage. An internet connection may be used optionally to download language models or required resources if the user chooses to do so.
