Sunlit Hours is a calm, fully offline app for keeping your houseplants watered and cared for. Add each plant on your windowsill, set how often it needs water, and the app shows you at a glance who is thirsty today, who is due soon, and who is happily resting. Every watering, feeding, repotting and note is saved as a small line in your plant diary.
WHAT IT'S FOR
This app helps you remember which plant needs water and when, and keeps an honest record of how you care for each one. It is built for people who want a quiet, private plant tracker — no accounts, no ads, no internet connection, and no push notifications buzzing at you.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Add plants with a common name, scientific name, location (such as "Kitchen sill"), pot colour, care notes, and recommended watering and feeding intervals.
- Log care events in one tap: watering (with the amount of water in millilitres or fluid ounces), feeding/fertilising, repotting, and free-text notes.
- See your plants grouped by need: "Thirsty by the window" (due now or overdue), "On the way" (due in the next few days), and "At rest on the shelf".
- Read each plant's "days since last drink" and a "due in X days" projection calculated from its own watering interval.
- Open any plant to view its full care history day by day, its biggest single watering, and its running totals.
TODAY AT A GLANCE
The home screen sums up your day in three numbers: how many plants are thirsty, how many you have watered today, and the total amount of water you have poured. A seven-day strip shows your watering rhythm for the week, and a two-week chart shows the volume poured over time.
YOUR PLANT DIARY
The diary keeps your lifetime totals — current care streak, number of entries, total care events and total water poured — and ranks every plant by how much you have watered it and by its biggest single drink. Recent care sessions are grouped by day so you can look back on a week's work.
GENTLE STREAKS
Care for at least one plant a day and your streak grows, with warm milestones along the way: three warm mornings, a week in the light, a fortnight by the glass, a month of sunlit hours, a hundred bright windows, a season, and a full year of mornings. The streaks are there as encouragement, never pressure.
THE WINDOWSILL
A simple catalogue and settings screen lets you add, remove and reorder plants, switch between a light and a dark theme, choose whether the week starts on Monday or Sunday, turn gentle haptic feedback on or off, and pick your default unit (millilitres or fluid ounces). You can also clear everything and start a fresh week whenever you like.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your plant diary stays on your device. Data is stored locally in an encrypted database, with the encryption key held in the device's secure key store (Android Keystore on Android, Keychain on iOS). Nothing is uploaded, shared, or tracked, and the app works completely offline.
The app comes pre-filled with a few example plants — Pothos, Monstera, Snake Plant, Aloe Vera, Boston Fern, Spider Plant, Peace Lily and Basil — so you can see how everything works right away, then clear them and add your own.
