About this app

Launched in 2013 by the water agencies and the French Agency for Biodiversity, the "River Quality" mobile application provides information on the health of waterways and the many species of fish that inhabit rivers, and offers access data on bathing water quality.

NEWS:
- Update of the ecological states at the monitoring stations for the year 2022, on the data for the years 2021, 2020 and 2019
- Visual redesign of the application to improve accessibility and comply with the RGAA (General reference for improving accessibility - https://design.numerique.gouv.fr/accessibilite-numerique/rgaa/)

BATHING WATER QUALITY ON SMARTPHONE
With family or friends, during an afternoon at the water's edge or on a kayak trip, the free application allows you to cool off with complete peace of mind. For each bathing site, the user now has data on the bacteriological quality of the water.
These data, from the Ministry of Health, are regularly updated and available in real time.

Bathing places are classified according to a pictogram and a color code indicating the sanitary quality of the waters monitored for bathing without risk to health.

A SIMPLE AND FUN MOBILE APPLICATION
The “River Quality” application makes it easy to identify the ecological state of rivers as well as the species of fish living in the rivers of France.
From the water's edge or by boat, vacationers, fishermen, kayakers and hikers can access data on the nearest river, or a river of their choice, via smartphones and tablets, simply by entering its name or, for example, a Postal code.
The application is aimed at all audiences and offers games and quizzes to test your knowledge of water, or to find out what behaviors to avoid. The quality of watercourses can also be compared over 3 years, thus making it possible to see the efforts made by the actors of the territories to restore the rivers and eliminate pollution.

Thanks to a defined color code, an interactive map shows whether the selected watercourse is in "very good condition" (blue), "good condition" (green) or even in "poor condition" (red) and it is also possible to know the fish that inhabit the river.

The statements are calculated annually on the data of the last 3 validated years. There is therefore at least a 1-year lag between the current year and the last data usable for calculating the status.

16.5 MILLION DATA ACCESSIBLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Knowledge and collection of data on the state of aquatic environments are part of the fundamental missions of water agencies. They manage a network of 5,000 monitoring stations for all aquatic environments (rivers, groundwater, lakes, estuaries, etc.). Each year, they collect more than 16.5 million pieces of data on the state of aquatic environments, which are available on the water information portal www.eaufrance.fr

About water agencies – www.lesagencesdeleau.fr
The water agencies are public establishments of the Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition. Their mission is to finance works and actions that contribute to achieving good water status, preserving water resources and biodiversity, saving and sharing water, fighting pollution, restoring the natural functioning of rivers, marine environments and degraded or threatened wetlands.
