Tak Lite is a next-generation, open-source situational awareness app designed for teams operating in challenging environments where traditional connectivity is limited or unavailable. Currently compatible with Meshtastic devices, and will soon be compatible with more advanced layer-2 mesh networking hardware—such as Doodle Labs Mesh Rider radios. Tak Lite empowers groups to stay connected, informed, and coordinated, even in the most remote locations.

- Push-to-Talk (PTT) Audio - Layer 2 Only: Communicate with your team in real time using integrated push-to-talk audio, designed for reliability over higher-bandwidth mesh networks.
- Offline-First Design: Operate confidently in areas without cellular or internet coverage. All core features are designed to function fully offline, relying solely on your mesh network, including downloading offline map tiles.
- Secure & Private: Your data stays within your team—no cloud servers, no third-party tracking. Tak Lite is built with privacy and operational security in mind.

Background and voice features:

Background Processing: If you enable "Background Processing" in Settings, TAK Lite keeps your Bluetooth connection to your Meshtastic radio active when the app is in the background. This lets you receive mesh messages and location updates without keeping the app open. A persistent notification is shown while this connection is active. You can turn this off anytime in Settings.

Push-to-talk (PTT) voice: When you hold the push-to-talk button to speak over the mesh, the app uses the microphone in the foreground to stream your voice to your radio. A notification is shown while you are transmitting. The microphone is used only during active PTT transmission.
