About this app

Tarlo is the grocery scanner that answers the two questions every shopper actually has: "Is this okay for me?" and "Is there something better — and cheaper?"
Scan any food barcode and Tarlo instantly checks it against your rules, suggests a better swap when it doesn't pass, and shows real, shopper-reported prices so you can find it for less.
What Tarlo does

• Scan & check — point your camera at a barcode and get a clear "meets" or "doesn't meet your rules" verdict, with the exact reason (e.g. "Allura Red", "high-fructose corn syrup").

• Find a better swap — when a product doesn't fit your rules, Tarlo points you to an alternative that does.

• Compare real prices — see recent, shopper-reported prices so you know if you're overpaying and where to get it cheaper. No more guessing at the shelf.

• See the proof — tap for the full ingredient list with flagged items highlighted, plus the nutrition facts.
Your rules, not our score

You choose what to avoid — synthetic dyes, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, seed oils, nitrites, high sodium or sugar, and more. Tarlo flags only what matters to you, using Health Canada's front-of-package "high in" thresholds for sodium, sugars and saturated fat.
Powered by shoppers

Swaps and prices come from real shoppers checking real shelves — so the more you scan and contribute, the better and fresher it gets for everyone.

Free to scan

Scanning, verdicts and swaps are free, and you don't need an account to start.
Prices and product information come from public and community sources and are estimates — always check the shelf to confirm. Tarlo does not provide medical or dietary advice.
