About this app

Text Editor opens, edits, and saves text files on your device. Create a new document, change an existing one, or save a copy under a new name. The app does not use the internet. There is no account to create, no advertising, and no analytics. What you write stays in the files you choose.

Use it for notes, drafts, lists, logs, and configuration files. You can also open other text the system file picker can provide, including CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, Markdown, YAML, and source files such as scripts or code. If a file is not text, it is left unopened. Files larger than 10 MB are not opened.

Open a document with the Android file picker. Text Editor requests permission to read and write that file, then shows it on the page. Tap Save to write it back to the same place. If the original location can only be read, use Save as and choose a folder and a file name. Save as is also the way to keep the original and store a separate copy. A new document stays untitled until you save it for the first time.

Find walks through the document and highlights each match. Move to the next match or back to the previous one. Turn match case on when capital and lowercase letters should be treated as different. Replace changes the match you are on. Replace all changes every match. In selection limits the change to text you selected before opening Find, so you can revise one part of a long document without touching the rest.

Undo and redo step back and forward through your edits, including typing, paste, and replace. Line numbers sit beside the text, and the line you are on is marked so your place is easy to see. The editor uses a monospace font. Text size can be set anywhere from 12 to 28, and that size is remembered. Word wrap can be on, so each line fits the width of the screen, or off, so long lines stay intact and you scroll sideways to read them.

The status line shows the encoding and the line endings in the file: LF, CRLF, or CR. Those line endings are kept when you save. Saving writes the file as UTF-8. When you open a file, the app can read UTF-8, UTF-16, and common Windows text, then keeps the wording you see in the editor.

JSON, XML, HTML, and Markdown are colored so strings, tags, headings, and similar parts are easier to scan. Other files stay as plain text. When coloring is active, the status line names the language. Coloring is meant for documents of ordinary length.

If you leave the app with unsaved changes, a draft is kept on this device and restored when you return, so a note is not lost because you switched away. The app asks before you discard unsaved work or leave a modified document. Recent files are listed, up to the latest ones you opened, so you can return to a document without searching the file picker again. Text size, word wrap, the draft, and the recent list are stored only on this device. Draft files are excluded from Android backup and from transfer to another device.

The page follows the light or dark theme already set on your device. The interface is available in English and Italian and follows the language of the device.

Text Editor does not collect, transmit, or share personal data. A document stays on your device. The app reads a file only when you open it and writes a file only when you save it. A short privacy summary is available from the menu inside the app.

This is a direct editor for text you already keep on your phone or tablet. Open the file, change the words, check them with find and replace, and save. No sign-in is required, and no network connection is used.

Every file is one you choose. The app does not open documents in the background, and it does not write anything until you tap Save or Save as. Use it for a shopping list, a draft message, a log you want to trim, or a JSON, XML, HTML, or Markdown file you want to read with a little structure visible. When the edit is finished, the text goes back to the folder you picked. Your files stay in the folder you chose until you decide to change them again.
Open, edit, and save text files on your device. Private, offline, with zero ads.
