About this game

Photograph a wild bird. Get an instant ID. Earn points for the shot.

BirdCatch turns bird watching into a game you play with a camera. Point your phone at any bird, take the photo, and BirdCatch identifies the species and scores your picture on focus, framing and light, then adds bonuses for how rare the bird is, whether it is out of season, and where in the world you found it.

IDENTIFY ANY BIRD
Snap a photo and BirdCatch names the species from a database of more than 6,000 birds worldwide, with a fact about each one. Got it wrong? Correct it in a tap and your score updates instantly.

BUILD YOUR LIFE LIST
Every species you photograph joins your BirdDex, a personal field guide of birds you have actually seen. Search it, sort it by rarity, watch the gaps fill in. Common, Rare, Epic, Legendary.

THE EARTHDEX
One photo per species, curated by the community. The EarthDex is a living encyclopedia of the world's birds built entirely from real catches by real birders, spanning hundreds of species across 23 countries. Photograph a bird nobody has caught yet and your picture represents that species for everyone.

COMPETE
Daily, weekly and monthly leaderboards, globally or against birders in your own country and state. Bonus points for national birds, state birds, national parks, birds in flight, nesting behaviour, and photos that are simply beautiful.

EARN MILESTONES
Achievements unlock as your list grows. First of a species anywhere in the world. First in your country. First in your state.

FOR EVERY KIND OF BIRDER
Backyard feeder watchers, weekend hikers, park regulars and serious listers all play BirdCatch. No equipment beyond the phone in your pocket. No subscription, no paywall.

BirdCatch gets you outside, moving, and actually looking. It builds real knowledge of species, habitats and conservation status while you get better as a photographer.

Go catch 'em in the wild.
Photograph wild birds, get an instant ID, score your shot, build a life list.

What’s new

Push notifications now work on Android. You will get alerts when someone chirps on your catches or suggests an ID.

Also: the notification permission prompt now appears after your first catch instead of on first launch.
