Decibel Meter is a free sound meter and noise detector with a twist: set a limit, and the Pipe Down alarm yells back the moment the room gets too loud.
MEASURE NOISE IN ONE SECOND
Open the app and the dB meter is already running. A big live decibel reading, a gauge and a scrolling noise level curve show what your microphone hears right now, with min, max and average for the session. No sign-up needed.
THE PIPE DOWN ALARM
Drag the limit line straight onto the gauge (presets at 60, 70 and 85 dB), choose how many seconds the noise must stay above it, and pick the reaction:
• Funny voices – 17 recorded characters (a grumpy grandpa, Santa, a robot, a cowboy, a demon…) tell the room to pipe down
• Your own sounds – record or import any clip
• Red screen flash, vibration and a notification
The alarm repeats while it stays loud and calms down when the room does. Use it as a classroom noise meter, in a kids' room, an office or next to a loud roommate.
SCREAM BATTLE
Who has the loudest scream? 2–6 players, one word, one scream each. The decibel meter keeps every scream's curve, peak and average, ranks the players and announces the winner. Leaderboards and an all-time record keep the rematch going.
BABY MODE
Put the phone next to the crib: the noise detector listens for crying, plays a soothing sound or your own recorded voice, and can notify you. A bedtime reminder covers the evenings.
KEEPS LISTENING WHEN THE SCREEN IS OFF
Switch on background listening and the sound level meter keeps measuring with a persistent notification. It stops itself after a time you choose, so the battery is safe.
HISTORY AND EXPORT
Every sound meter session is saved with its noise level curve, average and peak. Export to CSV for a landlord, a manager or a noise complaint.
CALIBRATION
Phone microphones differ. Calibrate with one tap against a real SPL meter or another phone; the correction is applied to the live reading and to min, max and average.
