About this game

Tic-Tac-Toe: Rules and Discretion in Play
Tic-Tac-Toe is a classic two-player game played on a 3x3 grid.

Players: One player uses "X" and the other "O".

Turns: Players take turns placing their mark in an empty square.

Objective: The goal is to be the first to get three of your marks in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

End of Game: The game ends when one player achieves three in a row or when all nine squares are filled. If no player has three in a row when the board is full, the game is a draw

Here's how discretion is exercised in Tic-Tac-Toe:

First Move Advantage: The first player (X) has a slight advantage. If X plays optimally, they can always force a win or a draw. If O plays optimally in response, the game will be a draw.

Optimal First Moves:

Center: Taking the center square is generally considered the best opening move for the first player (X). It offers the most potential winning lines (four: two diagonals, one horizontal, one vertical).

Corners: Playing in a corner is the second-best opening move for X, as it still offers good opportunities for winning.

Edges: Playing on an edge as the first move significantly reduces X's chances of winning.

Responding to the Opponent: A crucial part of discretion is reacting to your opponent's moves:

Blocking: If your opponent has two of their marks in a row, you must place your mark in the third square to block their win. This is a top priority.

Creating Forks: A "fork" is a strategic move that creates two separate lines where you can win on your next turn. If your opponent can only block one of these lines, you'll win on the subsequent turn. Creating forks is a powerful offensive tactic.

Avoiding Opponent Forks: Similarly, you need to be aware of your opponent's potential to create forks and block them before they can execute.

Prioritizing Moves: A player's discretion involves prioritizing moves based on the current board state:

Win: If you can win on this turn, do it.

Block: If your opponent can win on their next turn, block them.

Fork: If possible, create a fork.

Block Opponent's Fork: If your opponent can create a fork, block it.

Center: If the center is open, take it.

Opposite Corner: If your opponent took a corner, take the opposite corner.

Empty Corner: Take any available corner.

Empty Side: Take any available edge square
