Known as the Bear bible. Published in 1569, this Bible marks a milestone in the history of Spanish-speaking people, as it is the first complete version translated into Spanish, from the original Hebrew and Greek languages. It is known as the Bear Bible because of the emblem that appears on its cover, a bear standing next to a bush, trying to reach the honey from a beehive, logo of the Bavarian printer MattiasApiarius. The Bear Bible reflects the literary beauty of the so-called Golden Age of Castilian literature. In Historia de los heterodoxos españoles, the Catholic scholar Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo praised the Bear Bible from a literary point of view, which he considered to be better written than the Catholic versions of Felipe Scío de San Miguel (1793) and Félix Torres Amat (1825)
