About this app

Vegan or not? VeganCheck tells you in seconds. Scan a product's barcode or take a photo of its ingredient list – the app checks every ingredient and shows a clear result: vegan, not vegan or please check.

FOUR WAYS TO CHECK A PRODUCT
• Barcode: VeganCheck looks up the product in Open Food Facts, the free open food database.
• Photo of the ingredient list: works even for products that aren't in any database. The text is recognized right on your phone.
• Name search: no barcode at hand? Just type the product name.
• Package photos: if the ingredient list is missing in the database, VeganCheck reads it from existing package photos and marks the result "according to package photo". Still nothing? One tap searches the web for the manufacturer's information.

CLEAR RESULTS
• Shows exactly which ingredients make a product non-vegan
• Flags ingredients that can be of animal or plant origin, such as some E-numbers
• Shows vegan labels, vegetarian status, palm oil and "may contain traces" notes
• Vegan alternatives: if a product isn't vegan, VeganCheck suggests similar vegan products

HANDY WHEN SHOPPING
• Allergen warnings (gluten, milk, egg, nuts, soy and more) plus your own warning list
• Ingredient lexicon explaining additives and E-numbers
• History, favorites and shopping lists with prices and notes
• Remember where you bought a product and compare two products
• Statistics, levels and achievements for your scans
• Flashlight, manual code entry, short US barcodes (UPC-E), dark mode, backup & restore, 21 app languages

FREE, NO ACCOUNT NEEDED
VeganCheck is free and unlimited and needs no account. It is financed by ads. The camera is only used to read barcodes and ingredient lists; images are not saved or uploaded.

Product data comes from Open Food Facts (ODbL) and is maintained by a large community. If in doubt – especially with allergies – always check the packaging. Product missing? Add it to Open Food Facts right from the app and help everyone.
Scan a barcode or ingredient list and instantly see if a product is vegan.
