If you buy onsite and they give you paper tickets which they scanned as they printed the app is unusable. They will not let you add your ticket to the app once scanned. Without the app you have zero insight into when and where buses are for hopping back on. The "live" map on their website only tells you departure times from first stop. And you have to dig out your 3 ft of paper receipt every time you get on. Makes for a very poor experience.

We went to New York as a large group, and I ended up waiting for over an hour for a bus. when one finally came, we couldn't get on even though there were extra seats because they were "saving seats for the next stop." We ended up just exploring the city on foot, and from what I heard we had a much better time than those that ended up on the bus. This is a huge waste of your money, if you want to do a bus tour pick another one.
