"An innovative application developed in collaboration with Northern, Community Rail Lancashire and Angel Trains – with funding from Connected Places Catapult and Department for Transport TRIG programme - designed to support individuals with accessibility needs to build confidence to travel on the UK railway system.
This simulation serious game provides a realistic and immersive experience, guiding users through every stage of a rail journey from arriving at the station and purchasing a ticket to requesting assistance, boarding the train, and disembarking. With 2 pilot characters Kai a powered wheelchair user and Daryl who is on the autism spectrum, Try The Train enables users to explore and practice travelling by train in a safe environment.
The Accessible Travel Simulation prototype was developed in collaboration with a large user group of disabled railway customers and has been successfully used to support the Try The Train programme. This major update to Try The Train incorporates extensive feedback from testing with disabled customers and caregivers, and is now being launched for wider user testing and further development.
