Follow spoken video with captions in a small floating window.
Subtitle Companion recognizes English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean audio from supported Android video apps. Read the original words, a translation, or both. Choose from 13 translation languages: English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian.
GET STARTED
1. Choose the video's spoken language and your caption language.
2. Download the translation language pack once, or start with original captions.
3. Tap Start captions, approve Android's screen capture prompt and select your video app.
4. Play the video. Captions appear in a floating window.
READ AT YOUR PACE
Expand the caption window, pause or resume captions, return to your video and stop the session. Save caption history on your device if you want to revisit it, and delete it whenever you choose.
ON-DEVICE BY DEFAULT
Speech recognition and downloaded translation models run on your device. Translation packs require an initial internet download. Google ML Kit may send SDK diagnostics and usage information to Google; see the privacy policy for details. Optional Azure speech recognition is available only if you configure your own Azure credentials; it sends audio to Microsoft's service and may incur charges through your Azure account.
COMPATIBILITY
Requires Android 10 or later. A video app must allow Android audio playback capture. Protected content, some players and some audio routes may prevent capture. Accuracy and delay depend on speech clarity, language and device performance. Captions are machine generated and may contain errors.
Source speech recognition supports English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Thai, Vietnamese and Indonesian are translation destinations, not additional speech recognition languages.
No app account is required. No advertising is included.
