About this game

Kakuro Crunch is cost free, has no ads, and we collect no data. It's a hobby.

There is a brand new pop-up control. Using double tap and the phone's back button, you can easily switch between them. Check it out!

Until the Big Crunch, you can create and solve as many Kakuro (Cross Sums) puzzles as you wish in over 200 small to huge sizes!

Kakuro Crunch creates Cross Sums puzzles or Kakuro puzzles, which are challenging and addictive for logic problem enthusiasts! Kakuro's clues are the sums of the digits you must fill in to solve a puzzle. Cross Sums puzzles are simply crossword puzzles with numbers.

Manual or automatic (default) puzzle creation is now easier than ever!

Originally released for sale in 1998 as X-Sums 98, Kakuro Crunch has a proven algorithm for generating Kakuro (Cross Sums) puzzles. Every puzzle has exactly one solution.

A major puzzle magazine also published many of our Cross Sums puzzles throughout the years, starting in 1995.

Built-in solving aids: Enter up to six, small trial digits per square. Get hints. Show errors. Correct Errors. Show the solution. Optional audio warning for duplicate digits or incorrect sums.

You can create new Kakuro puzzles and optionally save, open, print, and delete them.

You can select one or more saved Kakuro puzzles and export them as a ZIP file.

You can import one or more Kakuro puzzles, whether they are loose or contained within a ZIP file.

I was thrilled to find this game again! I originally had it on my PC in 1998 (X-SUMS98) and played it almost daily. Eventually I couldn't get it to work on my new PCs. (I think the last time I tried was around 2009). I now have successfully installed it on my phone but would love to have it on my PC again. I'm currently running Windows 10 Home. Do you have a new PC version available?

Hi Marsha! I'm thrilled that you wrote to me! https://www.twestbom.com has links to 32- and 64-bit, not-very-fancy versions of Kakuro Crunch (X-Sums 98). Old puzzles should all still work on either phone or PC. Apps use Java, so they may prompt you about that. Google may also let you install the Android app on PCs. Send email to me for questions:-)

Exactly what I was looking for. I'm used to solving full page puzzles and this is the only free kakuro app that even comes close. Every other kakuro app on Play is tiny, and doesn't really reproduce the experience of playing on the page. Love it. Best kakuro in the Play store. AND, I had to come back here on my own to say so, there doesn't seem to be a rating function within the app, devs. Not a complaint, it seems every other game bugs you until you rate.

I hope you're still enjoying Kakuro Crunch (formerly X-Sums 98). The same keyboard set-up still exists, but I've also added a pop-up control similar to one I saw on Ubuntu's Sudoku puzzles. No defects found, yet, for 1.3.2.22. Please comment. Re: "Not a complaint..." I don't like things that nag me, so I try not to nag others. Sometimes I succeed!

It is kind of hard to solve a puzzle if you don't know which cell is highlighted. I mean, the highlighted cell looks just slightly different shade than the other ones. I couldn't even get get around figuring the controls.

Thank you so much for your feedback! This has been fixed for two or three releases of X-Sums 98, now. Please let me know if this is better for you. Thanks. The controls also now default to the basic keyboard. It has digit entry, digit erasure, and hint for a single square.
