About this app

The free NRC app offers the latest news, background information, interviews and of course the digital version of the paper newspaper. You will also find podcasts, columns and puzzles. And you will find the option to compile your own news bundle and always be up to date on your topics.

In the ‘news’ tab you will find out what is going on: the most important news is always at the top. Read something that you want to share? This can be done easily via the share button. Do you like to be immediately informed of urgent news? Set notifications.

You can save an article that you want to read later in your personal reading list. This can be done both from the digital newspaper and from the ‘news’ tab. Your reading list is synchronised on all devices where you are logged in.

You can follow topics at NRC to create a personal news overview. Suitable topics to follow are suggested at the bottom of each article. For example: American politics or artificial intelligence. You can also find other news themes, columnists and sections in the app. If you follow a number of topics, a personal bundle of stories will be created in the ‘My News’ section. You can also set notifications for your topics.

Do you prefer to listen to articles? All our articles can be listened to in the app. Our journalism is recorded by voices based on the voices of two of our editors.

Do you prefer to listen to a podcast? NRC offers its own podcasts on various current topics, but also series on culture, crime or history. Or listen to one of the tips from our podcast editors.

The latest newspaper is available in the app every day at 23:00. After downloading the newspaper, you can continue reading offline. As a non-subscriber, you can buy individual newspapers in the app. NRC subscribers can read the digital newspaper unlimitedly.

Ratings and reviews

I'm general the app works well There is just one really major flaw: The app doesn't include an option to automatically download the daily newspaper. Every podcast app has this option, and I cannot fathom why this appears to be a problem to implement. Yes, I could try to download it before leaving home, but I fail to remember that and I'm not the only one, which is exactly why other apps have the option to do it automatically.

New app functions terrible. You can choose "onderwerpen" (subjects) but the default chosen "onderwerpen are not removable. After going to the respective subject/onderwerp it takes forever for the app to dowload the different articles in story-format (like instagram/FB). Returning from an atricle to the overview of atricles under a specific onderwerp/subject repeats the long wait. When choosing an article via through the old main menu, the app open it in a browser requiring logging in every time

It's a decent app for reading the news, but it's incredibly hard to find the article you are looking for. Most of the times when I get a notification notifying me of an article being released and I press on it I just get redirected to the main page with the article nowhere to be found.
