When highway crews deliberately trigger avalanches to clear a mountain pass — setting off slides with explosive charges — the road shuts down while they work. Controlled Avalanche Alerts tells you the moment one of those closures is scheduled, so a canyon commute, ski day, or mountain drive never catches you off guard.

It watches the official 511 and Department of Transportation feeds for six western states and sends a push notification the instant a controlled-avalanche road closure appears.

HOW IT WORKS
The app continuously checks each state's official highway feed. When a road is closed, or scheduled to close, for avalanche-control work, you're notified right away and can see exactly where and when.

IMPORTANT
Controlled Avalanche Alerts is an unofficial convenience tool. Alerts may be delayed, incomplete, or missed, and push delivery is not guaranteed. Coverage is limited to participating state highway programs — it does not include ski resorts, backcountry terrain, or every road. Never rely on this app for safety-critical decisions. Always obey official signage, road closures, and instructions from authorities.

Note: Controlled-avalanche work happens in winter. Outside the season the closures list may be empty — that's expected.
