Know in two seconds if you're safe.
Stormkeeper is a free tornado tracker and weather radar for the United States. It reads official National Weather Service alerts and tells you plainly: safe, watch, warning, or take shelter now.
ONE CLEAR ANSWER
• Open the app and see your status first, then the radar that backs it up
• Official alert text from the National Weather Service, never rewritten
HOW FAR, HOW LONG
• When a storm is heading your way, see its distance, direction and the minutes until it reaches you
• A "Take shelter now" screen with your own shelter plan and a countdown until the warning expires
• An all clear when the warning has ended, so you are not left guessing
WATCH OVER FAMILY
• Save up to 3 places, like a parent's town or a school, and see the status of each one
MORE THAN TORNADOES
• Severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings, and watches
• Lightning near you, with the 30/30 rule countdown
• Live NOAA radar with a timeline you can replay
• Today's storm risk from the Storm Prediction Center, in plain words
• Hourly forecast, open shelters nearby from FEMA and the Red Cross, and short safety guides
• English and Spanish
FREE, WITH RESPECT
• Radar and official alerts are free
• The app shows ads, but never while a watch or warning is active for your location, and never on the "Take shelter now" screen
• No account needed
IMPORTANT
Stormkeeper checks for new alerts while the app is open. It does not replace outdoor sirens, Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone, or a NOAA Weather Radio. Alerts can be delayed by your network or device. When a warning is issued for your area, act on it.
Coverage: the United States and its territories. The app relies on US government weather data, so it does not work elsewhere.
Data: alerts and forecasts from the National Weather Service; radar and lightning from NOAA; storm outlooks from the Storm Prediction Center; maps from OpenStreetMap contributors. Stormkeeper is not affiliated with NOAA or the National Weather Service.
