It's 1910 and coal is king. Build the railways of Wales: lay track up the Rhondda and the Taff, run coal down to Cardiff Docks and watch the Valleys grow around your trains.
Valleys Rising is an offline train game, railway tycoon and transport simulator set in a real, hand-shaped Wales (Cymru), from Snowdonia and Anglesey to the Severn. Start with £100,000, a depot and a dream, and grow a transport company through a century of change, from steam trains to tram-trains, with ships and planes along the way.
START YOUR WAY
- Tap Play and you're running trains in a minute, or take Quick start: the Taff Vale line already running, with one stuck train to fix.
- Start in your own town on a map of Wales (in Welsh or English) and your own decade: 1910, 1960, 1985 or 2000, with that era's trains, prices and towns.
- Build on a blank map, or join the railway that's already there: rent its stations by the month, with your first train leased so a service runs from day one.
BUILD RAILWAYS
- Draw track as smooth curves with live cost, gradient and curve radius. Bridges, tunnels and cuttings, priced by the land they cross.
- Stations of up to eight platforms (Cardiff Central has 8, Swansea and Newport 5), double track with automatic signals, depots and path signals.
- Auto route: pick two or more towns and the game finds the way and lays it for you. Upgrade and electrify as the decades pass.
- Roads too, with buses and lorries from horse carts to HGVs.
RUN YOUR LINES
- A full line manager: stops, a platform for each stop, Out and back or Loop routes, and express runs that call one way only.
- Steam, diesel and electric trains with their real class numbers. Build them carriage by carriage and paint them in historical liveries.
- Vehicles age and break down. Renew them, or lease, buy and auction used trains, buses, lorries, ships and planes in a second-hand market that spans the world.
- Research new engines and track, set a yearly budget, borrow for a term, and weather strikes, landslips and fuel price spikes.
SHIPS AND PLANES
- Docks and ships round the coast and across the sea to Ireland (Dublin and Rosslare are on the map), airports from 1930 and heliports from 1955.
RIVAL COMPANIES
- Up to four computer-run rivals, from Off to High, open in parts of Wales you don't serve. Share track for a fee, win passengers, buy exclusive rights to a town, or buy a rival out.
- Rivals now run ferries to Ireland and flights too, and they talk back in their own words, with answers you choose. Switch them off for a solo game.
- Town tenders: a town with no station puts a contract out. Bid in secret and the lowest ask wins.
COME BACK TOMORROW
- Dispatch: one small job a day, with a streak and a Snowdon silver livery to win.
- Earnings while you're away, and a Welsh newspaper's front page, in Welsh and English, with one real event when you come back.
- An inbox that keeps every message, subsidy offers with time to plan, and one clear goal always in view.
- Postcards of your railway, in Welsh and English, and a report card at the end of each era, to share. Name your stations, lines and locomotives.
A HISTORICAL WALES
- The whole country from real height data: valleys, mountains, rivers and coast, with about 70 towns and 150 villages named in Welsh and English.
- Fourteen industries in real supply chains, from collieries to the shipyard at Barry Docks.

- Day and night, colliery rescues, and cities to rebuild after the Blitz.
