About this game

Merels is a beautifully crafted take on Nine Men's Morris — the ancient "mill" board game — reimagined with warm hand-carved wood, glowing stones and a genuinely clever opponent. Place your nine stones, line up three in a row to form a mill, and snatch an enemy stone off the board. It is pure strategy: no dice, no luck, just you against a thinking rival.

Every match plays out across three classic phases. First you take turns placing stones; then you slide them along the lines to outmanoeuvre your opponent; and when you are worn down to your last three stones, you may fly to any empty point in a desperate bid to survive. Reduce a rival below three stones — or lock them with no legal move — to win. Behind the scenes a minimax AI with alpha-beta search reads the board, defends its mills and punishes loose play, so wins are earned, not given.

Climb The Ladder: 48 hand-tiered rivals across four chapters — The Tavern, The Guild, The Court and The Masters — each opponent sharper than the last. Earn up to three stars per match by winning cleanly without takebacks, chase ten achievements, and track your mills, captures and win streak in the stats hall. Swap between wood, slate, leather and ebony boards to make the table your own.
