About this app

Some evenings the homework comes out and you cannot help. The syllabus has changed since your time, the book is not in the language you studied in, and by eight o'clock there is nothing left of the day.

Take a photo of that page of your child's textbook or notebook. Vidoova reads it and teaches from it - the chapter in front of your child, the questions printed in their own copy. Not a general lesson pulled off the internet. That page.

You do not have to know the answer. You only have to hold the phone steady.

The tutor speaks first
Once the page is read, it greets your child by name, says which chapter it has just read, sometimes quotes one line from the page, and offers a place to begin. Nobody has to think of a clever question before anything can start. Late at night it offers to stop for the day instead.

Steps, not answers
Explanations come one step at a time. After a step or two the tutor stops, says now you try, and waits. If your child is lost they can tap the step where it went wrong and hear that part again, told a different way rather than the same way louder.

Apna kaam dikhao - show your work
Your child photographs their own working in the copy. Vidoova finds the first step that went wrong and gives a hint, never the answer. When they get there themselves it says so: "I did not tell you the answer - you got there yourself." If the handwriting is not clear enough to be sure, it refuses to judge rather than guess. In parent mode you see right, half right or wrong for each question. Your child sees only the hint.

Ask out loud, or type
Voice is optional and typing always works. Answers can be read aloud with the spoken line highlighted, at three speeds, so a Class 3 reader and a Class 9 reader are not given the same pace. You choose the teacher's voice - Asha Ma'am, Ravi Sir, Meena Didi, Arjun Bhaiya or Lata Aunty.

It stays with the book
A question about some other page is not answered from thin air - your child is asked to scan that page first. Anything that goes beyond the book needs your PIN. Every turn of every session is kept, with the reason the tutor answered or declined, for you to read.

The evening letter
On evenings your child has studied, one short letter reaches you at 8:30pm: what they worked on, where they got stuck, and one small thing to try tomorrow - five minutes, never more homework. On a quiet day nothing comes, and the app says so kindly instead of nagging anybody. A week of letters is kept, and each one can be read aloud.

There is a report card as well - minutes studied, right the first time, what had to be explained again, and how often your child fixed a mistake themselves after a hint.

Your child's photos
Each page is read and our copy of it deleted straight away. The photo in your own gallery stays yours. A first name or nickname is enough when you add a child - whatever you call them at home is fine. Settings has a Delete everything that tells you plainly what goes, and one child can be removed without disturbing the others.

Plainly, so there is nothing to find out later
Class 1 to 12. You choose your child's class and board - CBSE, ICSE or state - when you add them.
The tutor explains in English, or in Hindi and the everyday Hinglish a teacher uses at the board. The app's own screens are in English and Hindi. You set the two separately, for each child. More Indian languages are planned.
There are no ads in Vidoova and no advertising ID. The app is free to use.
There is a daily limit on scans and on the tutor's voice. When the voice runs out, your phone's own voice takes over.
Sign in with a Google account. Internet is needed to read a page.
Vidoova helps with the book in front of your child. It does not replace their teacher, or you.
