Tavunen is a playful app that helps children practice Finnish syllabification and become fluent in reading.
Just a one-time payment: no ads, no additional costs.
The game involves building words from syllables according to a model. Friendly animal characters encourage learning and making mistakes is not a problem.
The game starts with short two-syllable words and progresses to increasingly difficult syllables and words as the child's skills develop.
Tavunen is spoken in Finnish. It is primarily aimed at children who can already read syllables a little and recognize sounds.
In total, the game contains 300 hand-selected Finnish words that have been carefully considered for the best learning results.
There are five levels of difficulty in Syllables:
1. Two-syllable short words (ko-ti, ka-la, lu-mi)
2. Short and long sounds (u-ni, uu-ni, pa-lo, pal-lo)
3. Words with a diphthong in the first syllable (kieli, huo-li)
4. Äng sound (onki, han-get)
5. Challenging and long words (di-no-sau-rus, prin-ses-sa)
You can play Syllables just for fun or with an adult, emphasizing some aspect, e.g. the äng sound. The game does not count mistakes, because exploring different options is the best way to learn! Sometimes it's good to press "wrong" syllables and listen to how they sound.
Syllables was made in Finland and especially for Finnish-speaking children. The authors have solid experience in children's games, data security and application development, and are also parents themselves.
In addition to safety, our values include fostering excellent Finnish language in digital content made for children.
