About this app

The prison in Uherské Hradiště is a place with a turbulent history. At the beginning of the so-called first republic, workers striving for better social rights were isolated here, during the protectorate a number of Czech patriots and anti-fascist fighters were imprisoned here. Executions began here only after the Second World War. After the communist putsch in February 1948, at the time of the trials staged by the communist authorities, the Hradišť prison became a place of suffering for hundreds of people. They were tortured and interrogated in a way that had nothing to do with Gestapo methods.

However, the story of this memento in the middle of Uherské Hradiště remained forgotten. Therefore, the topic now opens with the immersive exhibition Behind the Wall - a mobile application for smart devices that mainly uses augmented reality (AR).

At six stations, you can view the prison complex from a bird's eye view, enter a solitary cell from the 1950s from the street, or experience an interactive interrogation. Your guide will be an AR hologram of actress Eva Podzimková (Josefíková), a native of Uhersko-Hradiště.

The application is site-specific and therefore WORKS EXCLUSIVELY IN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE PRISON, for that reason it requires access to GPS.

The purpose of the work, in which the non-profit organizations Historia Futurae and Memoria participate, is to share and communicate the history of the Uhersko-Hradiště prison and the fates of the persecuted victims of communist ideology here as an example of innovative commemoration of society's repressed memory.
