Vugana teaches English the real way: by speaking, every day, with a group and an instructor.
ONE TASK A DAY
Each morning, a real-life situation to role-play in English: negotiating a price at the market, explaining a delay to a client, or going for a job interview. You record forty to sixty seconds. You receive feedback in less than a minute: your speaking rate, your word-for-word pronunciation, the keywords you used or omitted, and a restatement of what you meant.
A COHORT, NOT A SOLO APP
A maximum of twenty-five learners, twelve weeks, and an instructor who knows your name. The chat room resembles a discussion group, except it doesn't get cluttered: outside of the open discussion area, only responses to the day's task are posted. Others' work only appears once yours has been submitted.
LIVELY VOICE CALLS
Forty-five-minute audio-only sessions. No cameras, ever. If the instructor can't make it, the session becomes a conversation club led by the assistant: it's not canceled, because a canceled session breaks the routine.
PROGRESS MEASURED IN MINUTES SPOKEN
Not in time spent in the app. Vugana doesn't even track time spent: what matters is how many minutes you've spoken English this week.
MADE FOR THE LOCAL NETWORK
A one-minute voice note is about 120 kilobytes. Offline, you read the thread, listen to what's already downloaded, and record: your recording starts automatically when you're back online.
WHAT VUGANA DOESN'T DO
No fill-in-the-blank grammar lessons. No series that keeps track of progress by opening the app: it keeps track of progress by speaking. No ranking based on your starting level.
Vugana, from kuvugana: to speak.
Speak English every day, in a cohort, with an instructor and a real group.
