"W.O. is that term we naturally incorporate into our discourse without knowing its etymology. It is an abbreviation of an English expression, "Walk Over", which can be translated as walking on. Used in sports competitions, this expression indicates that, for some reason, an opponent does not attend the competition, in this case the team present won by WO. The use of this expression comes from athletics, more precisely from races. In the absence of an opponent, it was enough for the competitor, to win, only to walk on the track. This symbolic act of "Walk Over" ended up creating an acronym that would be used in other modalities.
