About this app

Walk every block in New York City. WalkNYC checks off each block as you walk it on an interactive map across all five boroughs. Set goals by borough, watch your coverage grow, and see how you stack up against other New Yorkers on the leaderboard.

BACKGROUND TRACKING
WalkNYC marks off your blocks without you opening the app. GPS only turns on when your pedometer detects you're walking, so battery use stays low (less than 3% per day).

PRIVACY
Your walks stay on your device. Servers only ever see aggregate stats: total blocks, total distance, walking time. GPS coordinates never leave your phone. There's no sign-up, no account, no name unless you choose to set one for the leaderboard.

LEADERBOARD
See how you stack up against other New Yorkers by blocks — today, this week, this month, this year, or all time.

WALK HISTORY
Every walk is saved with its full path, timestamps, distance, and walking time. Open one to replay it on the map.

STATS
Daily, weekly, and monthly charts for distance, walking time, new blocks, and steps.

FREE
No accounts, no subscriptions, no ads, no in-app purchases.

Ratings and reviews

Great app! Wanted something like this for a while. It motivates me to walk more & explore new areas. I also appreciate that it has no ads or paywalls! There's a couple of features I want to suggest. I like to admire my greened blocks & wish I could see the map without any text/other map features overlaid. Maybe a way to save a png without those? & I know the border debates get heated, but I'd love to create smaller goals around neighborhoods like you can with boroughs. Keep it up!

Does not seem to work for Samsung/Android - wasn't tracking my walks the past two days in the background despite my settings being adjusted accordingly, and importing my Google Timeline walk history (5,000 walks, ~6% of the city) seems to have bricked the app, it closes every time these load in. Hope it works soon because it's a great concept!

I love this app--it's changed the way I see my neighborhood!
